Geo Genius Geography Olympiad was the brainchild of a group of Indian geographers, who launched the National Geography Olympiad in 2010. The first National Geography Olympiad hosted one thousand students participating from twenty schools, the number rose to three thousand students from sixty schools in the second edition in 2011, and in the third edition in 2012, the number of participants increased to five thousand students from hundred schools. The popularity of the Geo Genius Olympiad has been increasing ever since.

The Olympiad is held on two levels. Level I is held in schools, qualifying which, the candidates compete at the National Level II competition. The Olympiad is open to all kids studying in class 2 to class 2 to class 10

Geo Genius Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
All the students studying in class 2 to class10 are eligible to apply for the Geo Genius Geography Olympiad. Level I is a school level competition, and hence a minimum of 50 students are required to compete from each school. There are three categories of the Olympiad, based on the age group of the participating candidates.
- Sub Junior level: Class 2 – Class 4
- Junior level: Class 5 – Class 7
- Senior level: Class 8 – Class 10
The application form will be available in the schools. The applicants are required to submit the duly filled form to the teacher in charge, with the application fees of Rs. 140/-.

Geo Genius Geography Olympiad Exam Pattern
The level I exam will be held in both online and offline mode. The candidates can choose any mode for the examination. Top 50 Participants in each category with high scores from Level 1, will be invited to Mumbai for the National Finals (Level 2) to be held in April 2019. The second level will a written test. The top ten candidates will qualify for the audio visual round.
Geo Genius Geography Olympiad Rewards
Level 1 School Level
- All 3 Medals (Gold, Silver , nd Bronze) will be rewarded in a category subject to at least a minimum of 15 students participating in a single category.
- If less than 15 but more than 10 students participate then only Gold and silver medals will be rewarded.
- If less than 10 but more than 5 students participate then only Gold medal will be rewarded.
- If less than 5 students participate then no medal will be rewarded.
- School Rank 1 in Category – Gold Medal + Merit Certificate
- School Rank 2 in Category – Silver Medal + Merit Certificate
- School Rank 3 in Category – Bronze Medal + Merit Certificate
- All other participating students – Merit Certificate / Participation Certificate
Level 2 National Level
- National Rank 1 in Category – Laptop + Gold Medal + National Finalist Trophy + Merit Certificate
- National Rank 2 in Category – Tablet + Silver Medal + National Finalist Trophy + Merit Certificate
- National Rank 3 in Category – Watch + Bronze Medal + National Finalist Trophy + Merit Certificate
- All other participating students – National Finalist Trophy + Merit Certificate
