Mother’s Milk Supersedes All Baby Foods

One of the first decisions a new mother has to make is, how she is going to feed her baby. When a mother chooses to breastfeed, she makes an investment in her baby’s future. Breastfeeding provides the perfect nourishment for a baby. Mother’s milk gives the baby a healthy start to last a lifetime. While it takes time, dedication and a whole lot of patience, many moms would agree that it’s totally worth the effort. Breastfeeding is a lifesaving source of energy and nutrients for babies to stay away from illness and malnutrition.

Breast milk is specifically tailored to suit a baby. Breastfeeding protects against illnesses beyond the baby’s nursing stage too. Studies show that breastfeeding can reduce a child’s risk of developing certain childhood cancers due to the antibodies present in the milk that boosts their immune system.

One drop of breast milk miraculously contains around one million white blood cells. The cells, known as macrophages, soak up all the benefits of breast milk germs.

Rich in immunoglobulins A (IgA) that coats the lining of babies’ developing intestines, breast milk prevents germs from leaking through. Secretory IgA also works to prevent food allergies. By coating the intestinal lining like protective paint, breast milk prevents molecules of foreign foods from getting in to the bloodstream to set up an allergic reaction.

Breast milk also has a protective effect on many childhood diseases like diarrhoea, otitis media, urinary tract infections, septicaemia and chronic diseases. It may also help avoid a host of diseases that strike later in life, such as type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and inflammatory bowel disease. Moreover, the fatty acids present ¡n the milk like DHA, help in developing the baby’s brain and eyes. Also, breast milk ¡s easy to digest for babies and safeguards them against gastric problems and belly pain.

One of the biggest advantages of breast milk is that it has the ability to adapt itself to suit the needs of the baby as it grows. The breasts produce colostrum. yellow thick milk for the first few days soon after birth. Colostrum is filled with helpful antibodies and nutrients that are very important ¡n the first few days of a baby’s life. Colostrum takes the form of milk in a few days. There are no doubts about the fact that ¡t is best to feed your baby only breast milk for at least six months, without any water, formula, other liquids or solid food. In reality, any amount of breastfeeding is good for your baby’s health and development.

Breastteeding is also advantageous for the mother. For a mother, post- pregnancy weight loss and uterine evolution are required. There have been noticeably decreased incidences of perimenopause breast cancer, ovarian cancer and osteoporosis among breastfeeding women.

Many women start out with breastfeeding, but give up soon, even though breastfeeding is medically, nutritionally and emotionally the best thing you can do for your baby. Human milk has everything a baby’s body needs and provides more than just a perfect blend of calories, nutrients and antibodies. But the advantages don’t stop there. ft is convenient and requires no mixing, measuring, or cleanup. Most importantly, the physical closeness that breastfeeding requires makes it easier for nursing mothers to develop a strong emotional bond with their babies.

There are however a few disadvantages of breastfeeding. A mother must undertake a few precautions before breastfeeding. Your breast milk may not be sate for your baby if you are under the influence of certain medical conditions by taking harsh medicines or have other problems, like misuse of prescription drugs. In such cases, the mother is likely to pass on some infections, medicines and drugs to the baby through the breast milk, which can prove to be very harmful.

Every mother wants the best for her baby and breastfeedlng has long been touted as the golden way to feed a baby. But the fact is, it’s just the normal and natural way to a hale aid hearty baby.
