Online registration only for girl applicants is open for admissions in Sainik School at Ghorakal (Uttarakhand). The applications are invited to get admission in Class 6th who will satisfy the eligibility requirements for arriving in the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Exam (AISSEE) for the academic session 2020-21. Boy candidates are admitted to Class 6 only from the age of 10 to 12. An All India Sainik School Entrance Examination is held yearly on a tentative date (preferably the first week of Sunday). There is a 25% quota for the defense applicants, 15% and 7.5% respectively of the SC and ST applicants.
The rest of the boy candidates come from the General category. The School terms are from 01 June to 30 April. Since 1993, a small number of candidates are also admitted to Class IX. Sainik School Ghorakhal Reservation
- 15% of the total seats are reserved for the SC category and 7.5% seats for ST category.
- Out of the remaining, 67% of the seats will be reserved for children from the State in which the Sainik School is located. Balance 33% leftover of seats will be thrown open to children from other states and Union Territories in the ratio of their male population. Sainik School Ghorakhal, located near Nainital was founded on 21 March 1966 on the beautiful estate of Nawab of Rampur. The name ‘Ghorakhal’ describes the event in 1857 when the British General in a drastic bid to leave the revolutionists of Awadh, turned into this area and his horse while drinking water from a nearby pond vanished, therefore the name Ghora (Horse) Khal (pond).
The Ghorakhal territory was granted to General Wheeler in 1870 by the British Rulers. In 1921, the then Nawab of Rampur, Maj Gen, His Highness, Alijah, Amirul Umrah, Nawab, Sir Syed Mohammed Hamid Ali, Khan Bahadur, acquired this Estate. After the destruction of the Privy Purse in post-Independent India, the State Government (Then Uttar Pradesh) acquired the Estate from the Nawab of Rampur in March 1964 and later Sainik School Ghorakhal was established on 21 March 1966.
