IIT Biotechnology Salary
Indian Institute of Technology is one of the renowned engineering institutes in India. A number of students pass out every year with a handsome salary package in hand. Every IIT offers almost 100% placements every year in every field. Biotechnology is one challenging stream where placements are hard to acquire. IITs do offer placements for Biotechnology students, not necessarily in a Biotechnology company.
IIT Delhi offers placements from Biocon, Novozymes, Wockhardt, Dr.Reddy, Strand Genomics, TCS (R&D), with an average salary package of 6-8 lakhs per annum which is lower than the salary packages in any other branch. IIT Kanpur is famous for placements in TCS (R&D) and INTAS (as core). 98% of students at IIT Kharagpur were recruited at an average salary of 9-12 lacs per annum.
Overview of the IIT Biotechnology Placement 2018 Salaries:

The placements in biotechnology at IITs are slightly more than those compared to any other college or university. No institute offers Biotechnology placements in the core companies, and if they do, the packages are very low. Many Biotechnology students change their fields after graduation or post-graduation only because of the low salaries provided by the companies. It is only the “tag” that can get you an esteemed job profile along with a satisfactory remuneration. That is why all the IITs offer confirmed placements in the Biotechnology departments.
IITs follow a transparent placement policy to safeguard the interests of the students. The details of the previous placements are available on the institute’s website. The training and placement cell works really hard in favor of the students. Everyone, including the staff and the student coordinators put in their best efforts to invite the topmost recruiters to the campus.
Also, the alumni uphold the values and trust of the company, thereby, maintaining the dignity of the institute they were placed from. The placements not only depend on the academic performance of an institute but also on the past recruitments and services. Depending on this, the salaries are offered. Therefore, IITs are known for the best salary packages in the country.
Most of the IITs run only the M.Tech programmes in Biotechnology. The ones who qualify the GATE examination only can pursue the master’s degree from the IITs. Also, the Ph.D. programmes in Biotechnology aided by Government organizations are run by the IITs. It takes a lot of hard work and a JRF examination to attain the IIT Ph.D. tag.
Although the placements from the IITs are very less, majorly due to the low strength of the students, the packages offered are really good. No wonder people opt for a good institute for Biotechnology. The placement scenario is very poor. The students are compelled to sit for the non-core companies. The recruitment criteria for Biotechnology companies is way harder than any other stream. Still, IITs have made it in the list.
